Banana Halwa - Timeconsuming but Simple and Sweet

I'm going to follow the KISS principle here :)  - Keep it Simple n' sweet

10 large bananas over ripe -saved in the freezer over a couple of months (not plantains)
Sugar- around 2-3 cups  or according to your taste
cashew nuts - a handful
Cardamom seeds - 2 tsp powdered finely
Ghee/ butter as needed- a small stick

Method:

In a non stick wok, add the mashed bananas, butter and sugar on a low flame and stir occassionally for around 3 hours or so. When the mass stars to darken and reduce in volume, add cashews, rasins, cardamom and more ghee if needed. Keep stirring more frequently in the last hour of the preparation, when the mass stops sticking to the wok, reaches a thick jam like consistancy and is a dark coffee colour- transfer to a steel dish and flatten it out. Cut into desired shapes and serve.

I used ordinary overripe bananas and not plantains. It was an experiment that gave very tasty results. My sweet hubby couldn't stop raving about how good it was, so I was v forgiving when he finished it all (1.5 kgs of it), alone.

  1. Try it u won't be disappointed. taste almost like chakka halwa.
when I made it recently, I also add vanilla essence and rose water, and to make it thicker, I added flour - rice or all purpose will work. Do try it out with all those over ripe bananas.
